Microsoft Software you can run in a virtual machine that is supported without a problem:
- Azure AD Connect
- Microsoft BizTalk Server (2013 and later)
- Microsoft Dynamics AX (2012 R2 and later)
- Microsoft Dynamics GP (2013 and later)
- Microsoft Dynamics NAV (2013 and later)
- Microsoft Exchange (2013 and later)
- Microsoft Forefront Identity Manager (2010 R2 SP1 and later)
- Microsoft HPC Pack (2012 and later)
- Microsoft Project Server (2013 and later)
- Microsoft SharePoint Server (2010 and later)
- Microsoft SQL Server (64-bit version of 2008 and later)
- Microsoft System Center (2012 SP1 and later)
- Microsoft Team Foundation Server
Microsoft Windows Roles and Features that are supported:
- Active Directory Certificate Services
- Active Directory Domain Services
- Active Directory Federation Services
- Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services
- Application Server
- DNS Server
- File Services
- Hyper-V role is supported in Azure Ev3, and Dv3 series VMs
- Network Policy and Access Services
- Print and Document Services
- Web Server (IIS)
- Windows Server Update Service
Failover Clustering and Remote Desktop Services have specific configuration requirements but are supported with them. Hyper-V requires a certain VM size to be used.
Microsoft Windows Roles that ARE NOT supported across every VM:
- Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol Server
- Hyper-V (Hyper-V role is supported in Azure Ev3, and Dv3 series VMs only)
- Rights Management Services
- Windows Deployment Services
Microsoft Windows Features that ARE NOT supported:
- BitLocker Drive Encryption (on the operating system hard disk, may be used on data disks)
- Internet Storage Name Server
- Multipath I/O
- Network Load Balancing
- Peer Name Resolution Protocol
- RRAS
- DirectAccess
- SNMP Services
- Storage Manager for SANs
- Windows Internet Name Service
- Wireless LAN Service
